Location: Hull
Salary: £100 – £125 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Day-to-Day / Long-Term; Full-Time / Part-Time
Are you a practical and detail-oriented individual with a passion for design and technology education?
GSL Education are currently seeking a skilled Design and Technology Lab Technician to support secondary schools across Hull. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in workshop management, engineering, or D&T education who enjoys working in a creative and hands-on environment.
As a DT Technician, you will work alongside teaching staff to ensure the smooth operation of the design and technology department. You will play a key role in preparing equipment and materials for lessons, maintaining a safe working environment, and supporting students in using tools and machinery responsibly.
Key Responsibilities of Design and Technology Lab Technician:
Prepare and set up materials, tools, and equipment for D&T lessons
Maintain and repair workshop tools and machinery in line with health and safety regulations
Support pupils and staff during practical lessons, including demonstrations when required
Manage stock levels and order supplies for the department
Ensure the classroom and workshop areas are clean, safe, and organised
Assist with displays and the presentation of students’ work
Uphold health and safety procedures and assist in risk assessments
DT Technician Candidate Requirements:
Previous experience in a similar Design and Technology Technician role, preferably within a school setting
Strong understanding of tools, machinery, and materials used in DT lessons
Familiarity with health and safety regulations relevant to workshop environments
Good organisational and communication skills
Relevant qualifications or experience in design technology, engineering, or workshop-based subjects
Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply through GSL Education
