About the Role:
Working alongside the Head of Department and teaching staff, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and smooth day-to-day running of the DT workshops and classrooms. This includes preparing tools and materials for lessons, maintaining equipment, ensuring health and safety standards are met, and supporting both staff and students during practical work.
The role also involves supporting students with their coursework, helping with displays and exhibitions, and ensuring that all equipment is in excellent working condition. The ability to work independently, stay well-organised, and communicate effectively is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and set up materials, tools, and resources for lessons and coursework projects
Maintain DT equipment and machinery (e.g. laser cutters, 3D printers, pillar drills) to ensure safety and functionality
Support teachers and students during practical sessions, including giving technical advice and guidance
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines
Keep workshops, preparation rooms and storerooms clean, organised, and well-stocked
Carry out routine safety checks, maintenance, and minor repairs
Monitor and manage stock levels, and assist with ordering supplies and managing deliveries
Contribute to the preparation of displays, exhibitions, and DT department events
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Previous experience working as a DT Technician in a school or similar setting (preferred)
Strong practical/technical skills and experience working with tools and equipment
Good knowledge of Health & Safety procedures within a workshop environment
Experience using and maintaining specialist equipment such as laser cutters or 3D printers
Excellent communication and organisation skills
A flexible, reliable, and proactive approach to supporting students and staff
A commitment to promoting a safe, creative and supportive learning environment
This is a great opportunity to be part of a hardworking and successful department within a school that places a strong emphasis on both academic achievement and character development.
