Mechanical Drafter / Design Drafter
Salary: £40k – £45k
Location: Northampton
Department: Engineering Design
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
The Role
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Drafter / Design Drafter to join a global leader in engineering design and manufacturing solutions. In this role, you will focus on creating and maintaining high-quality technical drawings and documentation, supporting engineers across a wide range of projects. You will work on mechanical drafting for components, assemblies, and systems, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce clear, precise 2D and 3D mechanical drawings using AutoCAD in line with company standards.
* Translate engineers’ notes, sketches, and verbal instructions into accurate technical drawings.
* Reference past projects and standard designs to improve efficiency and consistency.
* Update and maintain drawing files, prepare bid/technical documents, and support project documentation.
* Check and review drawings for accuracy and completeness.
* Support project teams by coordinating with fabrication facilities and visiting sites when required.
What We’re Looking For
* Qualifications: HNC/HND/NVQ in Computer-Aided Drafting, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Experience: At least 5 years’ drafting experience in a mechanical or engineering environment.
* Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (essential); experience with Inventor and/or SolidWorks (advantageous).
* Strong understanding of mechanical drafting principles with attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards.
* Familiarity with piping, structural, or manufacturing drawings (preferred but not essential).
Travel & Work Environment
* Minimal travel required (0–10% per year, domestic and occasional international).
* Ability to handle light site/fabrication visits as part of project coordination.
