📍 Birmingham / East Midlands
💰 Up to £75,000 + Package

A well-established Midlands-based main contractor is looking to recruit an experienced Design Manager to join their growing team. This role will see you working across commercial construction projects, including a £30m flagship scheme, supporting the business through both pre-construction and delivery phases.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with clients, consultants, and project teams, ensuring designs are coordinated, buildable, and delivered to the highest standards.

The Role

As Design Manager, you will play a key role in managing the design process from pre-construction through to project completion, ensuring designs meet client requirements, regulatory standards, and commercial objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  * 

    Overseeing the pre-construction design phase, ensuring designs align with client specifications and statutory requirements.

  * 

    Collaborating with architects, engineers, and consultants to develop cost-effective and buildable design solutions.

  * 

    Managing design programmes, budgets, and documentation across multiple projects.

  * 

    Working closely with the client team, maintaining strong communication and resolving issues promptly.

  * 

    Leading design team meetings and providing regular progress updates to senior management.

  * 

    Ensuring projects comply with CDM regulations, Building Regulations, and company standards.

  * 

    Coordinating communication between all stakeholders to ensure design information is delivered on programme.

  * 

    Implementing and maintaining quality control procedures throughout the design and construction process.

  * 

    Managing and maintaining document management systems and design information flow.

Experience & Skills

  * 

    Proven experience working as a Design Manager for a main contractor.

  * 

    Strong background delivering design & build projects, including new build and refurbishment schemes.

  * 

    Experience managing the design process on commercial construction projects.

  * 

    Good working knowledge of CDM regulations and Building Regulations.

  * 

    Experience using and managing document management systems.

  * 

    Strong ability to coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and manage multiple project priorities.

  * 

    Commercial awareness with the ability to make informed design and value engineering decisions.

    Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and manage all aspects of the design process.
