Design Manager Location: Birmingham (Hybrid/Flexible - minimum 3 days per week on site) Rate: £400 per day Contract Length: 3-6 months IR35 Status: Inside IR35 Are you a Design Manager looking for your next contract opportunity? We're working with a leading engineering and infrastructure organisation that is looking to strengthen its project delivery team with an experienced Design Manager to support the Great Grid Partnership (GGP) portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity to take responsibility for the coordination, assurance and oversight of design activities across a portfolio of major infrastructure projects. You will play a key role in ensuring design outputs are delivered on time, to the required quality standards and aligned with project requirements and governance processes. Working across multiple projects, the Design Manager will support design planning, programme management, stakeholder coordination and design assurance activities, helping to drive efficient delivery, buildability considerations and effective design coordination. Key Responsibilities ·Develop, maintain and manage design programmes, monitoring progress and implementing recovery strategies where required. ·Coordinate design assurance activities, including submissions, hold-point reviews and gateway approvals. ·Manage design change control, including EWNs, CEs, PMIs and design-related commercial impacts. ·Lead design review meetings and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams. ·Manage RFIs, technical queries and design communication flows across project teams. ·Identify and manage design risks, including temporary and permanent works considerations, while supporting safety-by-design principles. ·Support tender and pre-construction activities through technical input, design methodology and risk assessment. About You ·Experienced Design Manager with 8+ years' experience in a related role. ·Strong background in HV substations, overhead lines, cable routes or similar transmission assets is highly advantageous. ·Experience coordinating design inputs across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring alignment, clarity and timely delivery. ·Proven experience supporting or managing design activities across a portfolio of projects, ideally within UK transmission or major infrastructure. ·Strong stakeholder management skills with experience working across complex project environments. ·Familiarity with National Grid standards, processes, assurance pathways and stakeholder expectations.
