Design Manager – M&E Building Services

An established and growing M&E building services contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to join its Cambridge-based team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong M&E professional who enjoys managing the design process from concept through to delivery and wants to play a key role within a growing business.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will take responsibility for coordinating and managing the M&E design process across a range of projects, working closely with clients, consultants, contractors and internal project teams.
You will be responsible for ensuring designs are technically robust, commercially viable and delivered in line with programme requirements.
Key responsibilities will include:
Managing M&E design packages from initial concept through to construction and completion.
Coordinating mechanical and electrical design information across projects.
Reviewing drawings, specifications, calculations and technical submissions.
Managing external design consultants and specialist subcontractors.
Coordinating design information with project managers, estimators and site teams.
Identifying design risks, clashes and potential issues before they impact delivery.
Attending design and project meetings with clients, consultants and other stakeholders.
Supporting the commercial and project teams with technical input and design development.
Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and project specifications.
Managing design programmes and ensuring information is issued in line with project requirements.
Providing technical support throughout the construction phase.
Assisting with value engineering and identifying opportunities to improve project delivery.
About You
The ideal candidate will have a strong background within M&E / building services, with previous experience managing or coordinating the design process on commercial construction projects.
The business would consider candidates from a range of backgrounds, including:
M&E Design Management
MEP Design Management
Building Services Design
Mechanical or Electrical Design Engineering
Senior M&E Engineering roles with significant design coordination experience
M&E Project Management with a strong technical/design focus
You should be comfortable working across both mechanical and electrical disciplines, although candidates with a stronger bias towards either discipline will be considered.
Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks or other M&E design/BIM software would be advantageous.
