A leading contractor operating in the infrastructure and aviation sectors is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their permanent team, working on a prestigious long-term project at Heathrow Airport.
This role will focus on the design management of structural steelworks and complex alterations within a highly regulated, live airport environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving coordinated, compliant, and efficient design delivery across all phases of the project.
🔍 Key Responsibilities:
*
Manage the full design process for structural steel elements and modification works.
*
Coordinate with designers, architects, consultants, and construction teams to ensure seamless delivery.
*
Review and approve drawings, ensuring compliance with project specifications and airport standards.
*
Oversee design risk management, change control, and stakeholder approvals.
*
Support site teams with technical input and ensure designs are practical and buildable.
*
Lead engagement with third-party stakeholders where required, including airport authorities.
✅ Candidate Requirements:
*
Significant experience as a Design Manager on major infrastructure or aviation projects.
*
Strong technical background in structural steelworks and complex structural alterations.
*
Proven ability to manage design within live or high-security environments (e.g. airports, rail, etc.).
*
Excellent understanding of UK Building Regulations, CDM, and relevant British Standards.
*
Collaborative, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple design interfaces.
🎓 Qualifications:
*
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related discipline).
*
Chartered status (or working towards) with ICE, IStructE, or similar is desirable.
