About Us
A growing private consultancy based in Leeds West Yorkshire, working closely with major PLC housebuilders to deliver high-quality residential site layouts across the UK. Known for our practical approach and client-focused design solutions, we’re now looking for an experienced Design Manager to join our team and lead on a range of exciting projects.
The Role
As a Design Manager, you’ll take ownership of the design process from initial concept through to planning submission. You’ll work directly with national housebuilders, manage internal design resources, and coordinate input from consultants to deliver layout solutions that are both creative and commercially viable.
This is a great opportunity for someone from a residential design background who thrives in a fast-paced, client-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce and manage residential site layouts
* Lead design projects for national housebuilders from feasibility to planning stage
* Liaise directly with clients, local authorities, engineers, and planning consultants
* Ensure layouts meet all planning policies, technical requirements, and design standards
* Prepare and review planning documents including Design & Access Statements
* Manage junior design staff and support the wider design team
* Attend client and project meetings when required
What We’re Looking For
* 5+ years’ experience in residential layout design or planning, ideally within a consultancy or housebuilder
* Proficiency in AutoCAD and or Vector Works is essential; with Adobe Suite software (Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign etc) SketchUp or Revit knowledge is a bonus.
* Good understanding of UK planning policy, National Design Guides, and space standards
* Confident in reading and interpreting technical drawings
* Comfortable managing multiple projects with minimal supervision
* Strong communication and organisation skills
* Degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Planning or related discipline
