Job Description
My client, a leading Main Contractor, is seeking an experienced Design Manager on a freelance basis to support a major new build prison complex. The role will be based out of their Manchester office and will play a critical part in managing the design process from concept through to handover.
The successful Design Manager will be responsible for:
Lead and manage the design process across all project stages, from pre-construction through to completion
Act as the key liaison between the contractor, consultants, subcontractors, and client teams
Ensure that design outputs are delivered on time, within budget, and meet all compliance and quality standards
Review and manage design documentation to ensure buildability and alignment with the project programme
Support planning and design strategy meetings, identifying and resolving design-related risks
Work collaboratively with construction and commercial teams to deliver a coordinated and practical design solutionRequirements:
Proven experience as a Design Manager within a Main Contracting environment
Track record of delivering complex new build projects from inception to handover
Strong understanding of construction methodologies, building regulations, and design compliance
Experience working on secure or government-related infrastructure projects is advantageous
Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to manage multiple design packages and work in a fast-paced environmentThis Design Manager role is being offered on a freelance basis initially for 3-6 months. There is the potential for this role to permanent if desired, however my client are happy to retain a freelance worker. Pay rate is negotiable depending on experience.
