Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Manager to join a well-established contractor delivering a major care home extension project in Bradford-on-Avon. This is a £13M traditional build scheme involving complex logistics and detailed coordination across architectural and structural packages.
We’re looking for an experienced Design Manager with a strong construction background, capable of managing the design process from pre-construction through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities:

Manage and coordinate all design elements across architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines
*
Liaise with external consultants, subcontractors, and the site delivery team to ensure coordinated design output
*
Monitor design progress and ensure compliance with planning, Building Regulations, and client specifications
*
Lead technical meetings, workshops, and design reviews
*
Identify and mitigate design risks, ensuring buildability and cost-effectiveness
*
Provide ongoing technical support during construction phase
*
Ensure that all information is issued in line with project deadlines and programme
Requirements:
*
Proven experience working as a Design Manager on construction-led projects – ideally in care, residential, healthcare, or commercial sectors
*
Strong understanding of the technical build process including traditional construction methods
*
Ability to manage consultants and coordinate between office and site teams
*
Proficiency in managing the flow of design information and leading design meetings
*
Recognised Design Manager or technical construction qualification (HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent)
*
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
*
Available for immediate start – freelance role with potential for long-term engagement
