Freelance Design Manager - Construction (Care Home New Build) Location: Cheshire
Contract Type: Freelance temporary contract
Duration: 6 months initially
Project Value: £14 million
Project Type: New Build - Care Home (Metsec frame, brick cladding)
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Design Manager to join our team on a high-profile £14m new build care home project. The project features a Metsec frame with brick cladding and is moving towards a site start in the next month.
Role Overview:
As the Design Manager, you will act as the key liaison between the design and site teams. Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate and chase design information, ensure timely issue of drawings, and develop practical, buildable solutions with the site and design teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and coordinate all design information across disciplines.
Liaise with consultants, subcontractors, and in-house teams to resolve design issues.
Ensure drawings and specifications are issued to site on time.
Assist with design workshops and technical reviews to ensure buildability.
Track and manage design changes, RFIs, and technical submittals.
Work closely with the site team to produce and review working drawings.
Monitor compliance with client and statutory requirements.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Design Manager on similar large-scale new build projects.
Strong technical understanding of Metsec framing systems and brick cladding.
Ability to read and interpret complex drawings and specifications.
Hands-on, proactive approach to resolving design issues.
Excellent communication and coordination skills.
Availability to work on-site or attend regular site meetings.
