Job Description
JOB TITLE: Designer
LOCATION: Office-based role in Stockport
HOURS: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (38 hours per week), with a 3:00 PM finish on Fridays
REPORTS TO: Head of Operations
Role Overview:
As a Designer, you will be responsible for managing design projects from the point they go live through to handover for procurement and production. You will work under the guidance of the Contracts Manager and Design Engineer to ensure all designs meet client requirements and are practical, safe, and cost-effective in a construction environment.
Key Objective:
To produce accurate technical drawings with minimal errors while adapting to client changes, ensuring all systems are buildable and meet construction safety standards.
Job Challenges:
This role requires an understanding of how design decisions impact downstream departments. You’ll use your technical knowledge to value-engineer solutions that maximise gross profit, working under the direction of the Design Manager.
Main Responsibilities:

Produce and issue construction and fabrication drawings.
*
Record and distribute RFIs (Requests for Information).
*
Participate in monthly design team meetings.
*
Attend design review meetings as needed.
*
Create accurate Bill of Materials (BoM) for each project.
*
Record daily work hours using internal reporting tools.
*
Generate site and fixings lists.
*
Organise and manage project documentation according to internal procedures.
*
Continue professional development and stay current with industry technologies and best practices.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

Adherence to programme schedules (planned vs. actual).
*
Client and stakeholder satisfaction with design quality and collaboration.
Candidate Profile:
Essential Competencies
Qualifications:
*
A-Level or equivalent.
*
Construction-related qualifications.
Experience:
*
Minimum 2 years in a similar design role.
Knowledge & Skills:
*
Strong understanding of construction assembly and sequencing.
*
Proficiency in 2D & 3D design tools (Revit, Inventor, AutoCAD).
*
Ability to interpret architectural drawings.
Personal Qualities:

Clear and professional communicator.

Self-driven with a high level of attention to detail.
*
Resilient under pressure and deadline-driven.
*
Demonstrates integrity and leads by example.
