Morson are recruiting for an experienced Bench Fitter /Detailer. This is a 6 month contract (initially) working onsite at our aerospace client Safran Actuations based in Wolverhampton. The shift pattern will be Double Days:
Week 1: Monday to Friday 6AM-2PM
Week 2 Monday to Friday 2PM-10PM
As a Detailer, you will take ownership of the fine finishing and visual integrity of gears and other transmission components, ensuring they meet strict quality and safety standards. You’ll work closely with machinists, engineers, and quality inspectors in a collaborative environment that values accuracy, consistency, and pride in craftsmanship. This position suits someone with exceptional attention to detail and a passion for producing work of the highest possible standard.
What will your day-to-day responsibilities look like?
• Carry out precision detailing, deburring, and finishing operations on machined components using a range of hand tools, polishing equipment, and rotary tools.
• Ensure that all surfaces and edges are finished to the correct specification, free from burrs, tool marks, or sharp edges.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, process sheets, and visual standards to achieve the required finish on each component.
• Inspect work visually and dimensionally using gauges, micrometers, and other precision instruments to confirm conformance to specification.
• Record all inspection and completion data accurately to maintain traceability.
• Support manufacturing engineers in trial work and continuous improvement of finishing techniques.
• Maintain your workstation and tools in line with 5S, TPM, and safety standards.
• Participate in problem-solving activities related to surface quality, tool wear, or process consistency.
• Provide feedback to upstream machining operations to improve process outcomes and efficiency.
Essential skills:
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in precision detailing, deburring, or finishing within aerospace, automotive, or precision manufacturing sectors.
• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
• Excellent hand–eye coordination and ability to perform intricate manual operations under magnification where required.
• Strong understanding of quality assurance and inspection procedures.
• Commitment to safety, accuracy, and teamwork in a production environment.
Desirable skills:
• Previous experience working with aerospace gears, transmissions, or similar precision assemblies.
• Familiarity with surface finish standards and aerospace quality documentation.
• Awareness of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
• Flexible approach with willingness to adapt to new techniques and support other operations as needed.
