Job Description

My clients are a a leading provider of testing and certification services for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The Engineering Department designs and builds niche mechanical, electromechanical and automated test equipment used by laboratories and customers around the world. Projects are very varied. One week you may be designing a breathing simulator for respiratory protection testing, the next you could be developing a new helmet test rig, improving existing equipment or helping commission a prototype. If you enjoy solving real engineering problems rather than designing the same product every day, we'd like to hear from you. We are seeking for them a Development Engineering Work on genuinely varied engineering projects. See your designs become real equipment. Opportunity to work across mechanical, electrical and software engineering. Flexible, supportive engineering environment. Training and development opportunities. Working details: Monday to Friday 38.75 hours per week Salary upto £32k 20 days holiday + bank holidays (per annum) increasing with service Free, on-site parking The Role We're looking for a practical Development Engineer who enjoys taking ideas from concept through to working equipment. You'll be expected to get involved throughout the entire development process—from discussing ideas with stakeholders through to building and commissioning prototypes. This role is suited to an engineer who enjoys learning new skills and working across multiple engineering disciplines. We don't expect applicants to know everything on day one, but we do expect them to be curious, practical and willing to get involved across multiple disciplines. Typical Responsibilities Meet with stakeholders to understand testing requirements. Develop practical engineering solutions. Produce design specifications. Create 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks. Design components suitable for manufacture and assembly. Produce Bills of Materials and manufacturing documentation. Assemble, test and refine prototype equipment. Support manufacture and commissioning. Work closely with technicians, laboratories and external suppliers. What we're looking for More than qualifications, we're looking for someone who enjoys engineering. You'll probably recognise yourself in several of these: * You enjoy solving practical engineering problems. * You're as happy in the workshop as you are behind CAD. * You naturally think about how something will be manufactured. * You like understanding how mechanical, electrical and software systems interact. * You're curious and enjoy learning new skills. * If something doesn't exist, your instinct is to build it. Successful applicants will be comfortable taking ownership of projects from initial concept through design, manufacture, assembly, testing and commissioning. Essential Skills * Good Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent experience) * SolidWorks * Practical problem-solving ability * Workshop confidence * Good communication Desirable Skills Experience in any of the following would be advantageous: * CNC machining or machining processes. * Electronics or instrumentation. * Pneumatics or fluid systems. * Data acquisition and sensors. * Python, LabVIEW, PLCs or embedded programming. * Design FMEA. * SolidWorks Certification. * MRP/ERP systems. * 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
