Development Technician
Salary: £27,000 – £34,000
Location: Oxfordshire (Kidlington & Harwell) – hybrid (up to 2 days WFH per week)
My client is a pioneering technology organisation working on cutting-edge scientific and engineering products. As part of their continued growth, they are seeking a Development Technician to support the build, testing, and optimisation of next-generation prototype and production systems.
The Role
The Development Technician will play an important role in supporting product development and manufacturing improvements. Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will contribute to the assembly, testing, and refinement of complex electro-mechanical and electro-optical systems, ensuring smooth progression from prototype through to production.
Key Responsibilities
Build and assemble complex electro-mechanical-optical systems for prototypes and development units.
Install and integrate mechanical, electrical, and optical components including PCBAs, wiring harnesses, and fasteners.
Assemble and test prototype PCBs, providing feedback to design teams on performance and manufacturability.
Support manufacturing engineering activities, helping to optimise production processes, tools, jigs, and test procedures.
Prepare detailed production documentation, including work instructions, build reports, and test records.
Design and manufacture wiring harnesses and related sub-assemblies.
Assist in development trials and process reviews, identifying areas for improvement.
Maintain accurate build records and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
Skills & Experience Required
Relevant technical or engineering qualification and/or hands-on experience in a related discipline.
Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
Proficiency in mechanical and electrical assembly, soldering, and use of hand tools.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and PCB assembly drawings.
Analytical mindset with good reporting and data-interpretation skills.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
Proven problem-solving ability and process-improvement mindset.
Desirable
Experience working in both prototype and production environments.
Knowledge of testing, quality assurance, and manufacturing methodologies.
Engineering background or relevant additional technical training.
