We’re partnered with a fast-growing, high-impact technology consultancy working at the cutting edge of national security and defence.
They operate at the interface of science, engineering, and invention – developing next-generation hardware and software solutions to defend against emerging threats in communications, surveillance, and electronic warfare. Due to continued growth and a wave of ambitious new programmes, they’re looking for an experienced DSP/FPGA Consultant to join the team and lead the development of novel signal processing solutions for real-world operational challenges.
This is a hands-on, highly technical role with real impact – offering the chance to design, prototype, and implement complex FPGA-based systems that sit at the heart of national mission-critical technology.
What will I be doing?
You’ll be working on the design and implementation of advanced digital signal processing algorithms, mapped onto FPGA and mixed-signal systems. Expect variety, fast-paced projects, and a deep dive into challenges like RF signal acquisition, waveform analysis, SDR architectures and more.
Key responsibilities:
Design, modelling, and implementation of DSP systems for FPGA platforms
Algorithm development, simulation, and optimisation for real-time processing
Full lifecycle design: from requirements and architecture to prototyping and testing
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams spanning RF, embedded, electronics and software
Leading technical direction on projects and mentoring junior team members
Engaging with internal stakeholders and customers to shape system requirements
Exploring emerging technologies to stay ahead of evolving defence needsYou’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to lab-based validation, low-level embedded integration, and exploratory R&D projects across the broader hardware landscape.
What experience do I need?
This is a senior technical role best suited to someone with a deep background in DSP and FPGA development, ideally within secure or classified environments. You’ll likely have a decade or more of relevant experience and be confident both in code and concept.
Essential:
Strong track record in DSP algorithm development for FPGAs
VHDL or Verilog design and simulation experience
Familiarity with signal processing theory, modulation/demodulation, and filtering
Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams on complex hardware systems
UK Defence, security, or high-assurance project background
Eligible for UK Security ClearanceDesirable:
Experience in communications or radar systems
Knowledge of Software Defined Radios (SDRs) or OpenCPI
Broader electronics or RF system experience
Embedded software integration (C/C++)
