Duty and Assessment Social Worker - Walsall Council Pay Rate: £30.57 per hour (Umbrella) Location: Walsall, West Midlands Contract: Full-time | Hybrid (minimum 3 days in the office - duty team) Experience Required: Minimum 3 years' post-qualified experience (DFE form to confirm PQE) About the Role Walsall Council are seeking an experienced Duty and Assessment Social Worker to join their fast-paced front-line team. You will be responsible for undertaking assessments, managing new referrals, and providing immediate support and interventions to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and families in need. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly collaborative, multi-agency environment, where your expertise will directly influence positive outcomes for children at risk. Key Responsibilities Undertake initial visits, assessments, and Section 47 enquiries in response to new referrals. Develop and implement child-focused support and safety plans in partnership with families and other professionals. Prepare clear, evidence-based reports and present cases at Child Protection Conferences and, where necessary, court proceedings. Maintain accurate and timely case records in line with statutory requirements and council policies. Work collaboratively with police, health, and education partners to ensure effective safeguarding and intervention. Manage a fast-moving caseload with strong attention to detail and prioritisation skills. Essential Requirements Qualified Social Worker (Degree, DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent). Registered with Social Work England. Minimum of 3 years' post-qualified experience in Duty and Assessment or Children's Social Work. Strong understanding of the Children Act 1989 & 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and relevant statutory frameworks. Excellent communication, analytical and assessment skills. Able to work effectively under pressure in a busy duty environment. Working Arrangements Hybrid working: Minimum 3 days per week in the office due to the nature of the duty role. Supportive management, regular supervision, and a stable, experienced team environment.
