Job Description

Abatec are working in partnership with a well-known, award winning, Civil Engineering Contractor with a wealth of experience across a broad range of sectors. Our client has a requirement for an Earthworks Material Manager to work on a Major Reservoir Project in Portsmouth with an overall value of £325m running until 2029. This role is a unique opportunity to be part of a high-profile environmental initiative from the ground up. As Earthworks Material Manager, you’ll play a key role in the construction of a new large-scale reservoir, managing material compliance, testing, quality assurance, and documentation. You’ll work closely with the Project Management team, design consultants, and client representatives to ensure all works are executed to the highest standards and in line with specifications, programmes, and industry regulations. As an Earthworks Materials Manager, you will: * Coordinate and oversee field and laboratory testing activities. * Produce, review, and issue Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). * Manage approval processes for all construction materials. * Review classification of excavated materials in compliance with specifications. * Liaise with materials testing subcontractors and oversee their performance. * Investigate and resolve non-conformance issues. * Compile and issue test results and reports. * Produce quality documentation (forms, checklists, client reports). * Ensure efficient reuse of excavated materials where applicable. * Collaborate with engineers and managers to improve site quality and productivity. * Promote and uphold health and safety standards on site. * Support in meeting project programme timelines. Our client requires an Earthworks Material Manager with: * Degree-qualified (or equivalent experience) in Civil, Structural, or Materials Engineering. * Minimum 5 years' experience in earthworks or materials testing. * Familiarity with UKAS Soils Laboratory standards (desirable). * Strong understanding of Specification for Highway Works and material classifications. * Excellent record keeping and data management skills. * Proven communication skills – able to engage with technical and non-technical teams. * Relevant certifications including CSCS card. * Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word. * Strong knowledge of HSQE regulations. * Attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to work both independently and in a team. * Flexibility to travel and stay away from home if required. * Full UK Driving Licence.
