Job Description

Maintenance Technician – Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Essex | Monday to Friday, Earlies and Lates | On-call 1 in 4 Real engineering. Real impact. Without losing your balance. If you’re used to working in demanding environments like power generation, petrochemicals or process plants, you already know the drill: critical systems, tight compliance, fast response. But what if you could do all that in a site that’s clean, modern, well-run — and built around engineering done right? This is a unique opportunity to work in one of the UK’s most advanced integrated waste management facilities, helping maintain and optimise the full spectrum of electrical, control and instrumentation systems that keep this 24/7 site running. From front-line troubleshooting to supporting improvement projects, your role will directly impact performance, reliability, and safety — while giving you space to develop, grow and contribute to something long-term. Why you'll love it here This isn’t a place where corners are cut or safety is sacrificed for speed. You’ll join a skilled, close-knit team where collaboration, ownership and pride in doing things properly matter. There’s investment in modern kit, structured processes that work, and leaders who back your development — whether that’s mentoring junior technicians or upskilling in PLCs, DCS or HV systems. You’ll get variety, ownership, and a working rhythm that gives you room to breathe, not burn out. The firm This is one of the UK’s most forward-thinking manufacturers, operating a major facility that helps process non-recyclable waste into energy — supplying electricity to the national grid. It’s a clean, high-spec environment that runs 24/7, 365 days a year. Long-term thinking is built in, and the operation is driven by clear values: safety, sustainability, compliance, and continuous improvement. If you want to work somewhere stable, well-supported, and future-focused — this is it. What you'll need You’ll bring proven experience in a complex process environment — whether that’s energy, waste, cement, oil and gas, or something similar. Ideally, you’ll have hands-on knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation and controls, and be comfortable working with or learning DCS/PLC and HV equipment. An NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or equivalent in a relevant engineering field is preferred, though strong experience can speak for itself. What matters most is a proactive, safety-first mindset and the confidence to work within a structured, high-compliance environment — where doing the job properly really matters.
