This contract role is remote and outside IR35, offering flexibility while working on cutting-edge nuclear engineering assignments.
About the Role:
As a Senior/Principal EC&I Engineer, you will define and manage the scope of work, ensuring all activities are executed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. You will lead and supervise a team of engineers, manage subcontracts, and deliver designs that support Design Reviews, HAZOPs, and safety cases across complex nuclear projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead EC&I design, specification, procurement, installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, and operator training for nuclear projects
Provide technical consultancy and liaise with multi-discipline teams
Manage project quality, progress, cost, and documentation
Supervise and mentor junior engineers, including resource management and recruitment
Manage contractors and sub-contractors while reinforcing a strong safety culture
Support sales, customer care, and bid preparation
Essential Requirements:
Degree in a relevant technical/engineering discipline or equivalent experience
Full UK driver's licence
Working towards or holding Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
Minimum 5 years' experience in the nuclear industry
Strong understanding of design requirements for nuclear safety cases
Proven experience managing sub-contracts and leading technical teams
Knowledge of safety regulations including CDM
Skilled in checking design documentation, drawings, and calculations
Strong organisational, collaboration, and deadline-driven skills
Desirable Attributes:
Chartered Engineer or near chartership, membership in IET or similar
Experience integrating EC&I design with control systems (PLC/SCADA)
Experience in design substantiation for nuclear safety cases
Defence sector experience
Experience in bid preparation
