Ecological Consultant - Birmingham (Hybrid)
Environmental Consultancy | Terrestrial Ecology
Salary: £27,000 - £32,000 (Dependent on Experience)
Location: Birmingham, UK
A well-established and forward-thinking environmental consultancy is looking for an experienced Ecological Consultant to join its Midlands-based terrestrial ecology team. This is a hybrid position involving a mix of fieldwork, ecological report writing, and client engagement.
Role Overview - Ecological Consultant
As an Ecological Consultant, you will:
Lead and support ecological field surveys including Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), and Protected Species Surveys
Prepare accurate, concise technical reports aligned with planning and legislative frameworks
Liaise with clients, planners, and stakeholders on ecological issues and project timelines
Support delivery of biodiversity net gain (BNG) and ecological mitigation strategies
Undertake regular seasonal fieldwork across varied project sites
Requirements
Essential:
Previous experience in ecological consultancy or a similar ecological role
Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field
Demonstrable experience in writing ecology reports (PEAs, PRAs, EcIAs)
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork
Membership of CIEEM (or eligibility for membership)Desirable:
Valid protected species licences (e.g. bat, great crested newt, dormouse)
Experience leading ecological surveys or managing small projects
Familiarity with GIS tools or data analysis in ecology
