Job Description

Hybrid Work Pattern Working Pattern: 2–3 days per week in the office (Manchester) or site, remainder remote The Opportunity Our client, a leading organisation within the UK nuclear sector, is seeking an experienced EICA (Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation) Responsible Engineer to support delivery of a major infrastructure programme at a key nuclear decommissioning site. This role sits within a long-term, multi-billion-pound infrastructure partnership, delivering critical upgrades and enhancements to site-wide utilities. Project Overview The programme focuses on refurbishment, replacement, and new installation of essential utilities infrastructure, including: * Steam (LP & HP) * Water systems (raw, domestic, demineralised, treatment) * Compressed air * Bulk chemical storage and distribution * Sewage treatment facilities Works span full lifecycle delivery - from design through to commissioning - across both on-site and off-site infrastructure. The Role As an EICA Responsible Engineer, you will lead and manage all EICA design and engineering activities, ensuring compliance with nuclear licensed site requirements. You will oversee internal design teams, consultants, and subcontractors, ensuring all deliverables are technically robust, compliant, and delivered on time and within budget. Key Responsibilities * Lead EICA engineering design delivery across the programme * Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams (internal and external) * Ensure all designs are safe, efficient, and compliant with regulatory standards * Review and approve EICA engineering documentation and deliverables * Ensure adherence to governance, digital systems, and design assurance processes * Provide technical leadership across all project phases: design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover * Support delivery of both asset care and new infrastructure projects Requirements * Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, Automation, or related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience) * Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards accreditation * 15+ years’ experience in the nuclear industry (essential) * Strong expertise across EICA design and engineering * Experience delivering utility infrastructure projects * Proven ability to manage and review complex engineering deliverables * In-depth knowledge of UK legislation, standards, and compliance requirements * Strong understanding of HSE and risk management processes * Experience working within large-scale, regulated infrastructure programmes Desirable Experience * Experience with EDMS and digital engineering workflows * Broader engineering leadership across quality, assurance, or information management * Experience across multiple infrastructure sectors * Involvement in procurement strategy and delivery Security Requirements * Minimum BPSS clearance required * Must be eligible to obtain SC clearance Personal Attributes * Strong leadership and coordination skills * Effective communicator with stakeholders at all levels * Delivery-focused with a strong safety mindset, proactive, adaptable, and solutions-driven
