Elective Home Education Support Officer Location: Horsham Contract: Initial 6 Months Hours: 30 hours per week – Term Time Only Rate: £21 per hour (Umbrella) (£16 PAYE an hour) Working Arrangement: Hybrid – Office presence required for meetings and regular travel across West Sussex Start: ASAP DBS: Enhanced DBS required About the Role West Sussex County Council is seeking a committed and proactive Elective Home Education (EHE) Support Officer to join the team based in Horsham. You’ll play a key part in supporting families across the county who elect to home educate their children. This role blends administrative tasks with field-based engagement, requiring travel to both urban and rural areas of West Sussex. Working closely with EHE Advisory Teachers, you’ll gather insight, provide written reports, and contribute to decisions around the educational provision for home-educated children. Your ability to build positive, supportive relationships with families will be central to your success in this role. Key Responsibilities Engage with and support home-educating families across the county. Provide advice and guidance on educational provision and development. Compile written reports and assist in decision-making processes. Work collaboratively with the EHE Advisory team and wider stakeholders. Travel independently across the county (own transport required). Maintain accurate records and manage your schedule effectively. Occasionally support in different regions of the county depending on need.What We’re Looking For Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. High attention to detail and excellent organisational skills. Resilience and tenacity in sensitive or challenging family situations. Confident using IT systems and writing formal reports. Experience working with children, families, or in an education-related setting is desirable. Flexibility to travel across the county (locations may not be accessible by public transport).Additional Information You will be accountable to an EHE Advisory Teacher.
