Job Title: Maintenance Engineer (Electrical or Mechanical Bias)

A leading manufacturer in Yeovil is looking to recruit a Maintenance Engineer, open to both mechanical and electrical backgrounds. This is a permanent, full-time days-based role offering excellent long-term development opportunities - particularly for mechanically biased engineers who want to become electrically skilled and dual qualified.
The company actively supports training and will fully fund a City & Guilds accredited electrical for the right candidate - a rare opportunity to gain formal electrical qualifications while earning and developing in a secure, well-established business.
Role Overview
You'll be responsible for day-to-day maintenance across a range of plant and production machinery, combining proactive and reactive work. You'll carry out fault-finding, equipment checks, repairs, and installations, ensuring machinery is running safely and efficiently.
The position sits within a close-knit engineering team where collaboration and knowledge sharing are key.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out both electrical and mechanical maintenance and fault finding.
Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) using the electronic maintenance system.
Support and lead on machinery breakdowns to minimise downtime.
Assist with installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment.
Liaise with production to plan maintenance work with minimal disruption.
Oversee contractors and ensure safe systems of work are always followed.
Participate in the on-call rotaRequirements
Time-served or apprentice-trained in a relevant engineering discipline.
Confident in mechanical fault finding and repair (hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, conveyors, motors, etc).
Ideally some basic electrical understanding - able to use a multimeter and safely isolate systems.
Willingness to complete a formal electrical upskilling course (fully funded).
Experience working within a production, manufacturing, or industrial setting.Desirable
Any electrical maintenance experience - inverters, motors, sensors, or control panels.
Welding and fabrication (MIG, TIG, MMA).
