Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Maintenance Engineer

This EC&I Maintenance Engineer position is based on a large-scale power plant facility in Dublin 22.
The Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Maintenance Engineer will support both planned and unplanned maintenance across HVAC, BOP, BMS, and LV/HV systems. This is a hands-on role within the operations team, ensuring equipment runs safely, efficiently, and in line with all regulations, O&M manuals, SOPs, and safety rules (Permit to Work, LOTO, HV Switching Logs).
The engineer will take responsibility for maintenance, troubleshooting, spare parts, documentation, and records for all control and instrumentation equipment. Working with the Control Engineer and/or Senior Authorised Person, the role will also involve LV and HV switching up to 110 kV.
Standard hours are Monday–Friday, 08:00–17:00 (40 hours/week), with occasional work outside these hours when required.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform daily inspections of electrical and instrumentation equipment, including start-up, monitoring, shutdown, and adjustments per O&M manuals.
• Carry out LV/HV switching in line with SOPs and switching plans.
• Conduct routine inspections, thermographic analysis, and condition monitoring of MV/HV switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers (AIS/GIS), MCCs, VSDs, and motors.
• Diagnose EC&I faults using schematics, diagrams, and testing equipment (multimeter, insulation tester, micro-ohmmeter).
• Interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, and layouts to plan maintenance tasks.
• Install and calibrate field instrumentation (transmitters, analysers, sensors, control valves).
• Carry out bench calibrations, loop checks, testing, and cable verification.
• Maintain accurate calibration records, test reports, and instrument history files.
• Troubleshoot control systems and respond to alarms, restoring systems to full operational status.
• Ensure full compliance with Permit to Work, LOTO, and all safety systems.
• Log maintenance activities in the CMMS in line with O&M requirements.
• Support safe isolation and de-energisation of equipment prior to maintenance.
• Prepare and review Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS).
• Report system anomalies and recommend reliability or process improvements.
Role Requirements
• Diploma or equivalent engineering qualification with 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role and/or National Craft Standard.
• Strong knowledge of instrumentation design (Instrument Index, I/O lists, datasheets/specs, layouts, cable routes, block diagrams, system architecture, ATEX/hazardous areas).
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and layouts.
• Knowledge of SCADA, HMI, PLC control philosophies, PLCs, and marshalling concepts.
• Experience with MCCs, VSDs, and instrumentation (level, pressure, flow, analytical).
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Thorough understanding of safe work practices (Permit to Work, LOTO, PPE, emergency procedures).
• Proficiency with maintenance tools (voltmeters, ammeters, insulation testers, vibration meters, thermal imaging cameras, loop testers, etc.).
• Comfortable using IT systems and CMMS software.
• Flexibility to support operations outside core hours when required.
• Fluent English essential; Portuguese an advantage.
