Are you ready to design the future of bespoke electrical systems? We invite you to join our clients innovative design and production team as an Electrical Design Engineer. In this pivotal role, you will take ownership of creating, developing, and integrating electrical control systems for advanced products used across a variety of sectors. From conceptual design to final commissioning, you’ll utilise creativity and technical precision to deliver reliable, compliant, and cost-effective electrical solutions.

You will collaborate closely with project managers, design engineers, production teams, and the workshop, ensuring each system exceeds the stringent performance and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Development
* Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical ).
* Design and specify control panels, motor drives, PLCs, sensors, and safety systems tailored to project requirements.
* Select, specify, and document key components, such as controllers, relays, switchgear, sensors, lighting, and cabling.
* Develop detailed bills of materials (BOMs) and coordinate with purchasing and suppliers for on-time delivery.
* Integrate electrical systems with mechanical and pneumatic subsystems for seamless operation.
Compliance, Standards & Safety
* Ensure all designs comply with BS EN (phone number removed), Machinery Directive, Low Voltage Directive, and applicable standards.
* Conduct electrical risk assessments and contribute to system hazard analyses and mitigation strategies.
* Stay updated on regulatory changes to ensure compliant practices and accurate documentation.
Project & Production Support
* Provide technical support through manufacturing, assembly, testing, and commissioning phases.
* Troubleshoot wiring and control system issues during build and testing phases.
* Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
* Assist in cost estimation, documentation (e.g., quotations, manuals, wiring schedules), and project management processes.
* Actively contribute to improving manufacturability, efficiency, and safety during design reviews.
Collaboration & Communication
* Work closely with project managers, designers, and production teams to meet deadlines and objectives.
* Collaborate with sales and service teams, offering technical insight and guidance to customers.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the design and production departments.
Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience
* Demonstrated experience as an Electrical Design Engineer or Control Systems Engineer in industrial machinery or automation environments.
* Strong understanding of control panel design, machine safety systems, and electrical system integration.
* Proficiency in CAD electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
* Knowledge of UK and EU electrical standards and regulations.
* Proven expertise in component specification and procurement for electrical assemblies.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to technical detail and project timelines.
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Familiarity with PLC programming and system integration (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, etc.).
* Knowledge of SCADA systems, HMI design, or control software development.
* Understanding of 3-phase power distribution, panel building, and wiring best practices.
Day-to-Day
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to foresee and solve design and production challenges.
* Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with applicable electrical safety standards.
* Participate in building, testing, and commissioning phases, solving technical issues as they arise.
* Maintain close collaboration with internal teams, suppliers, and clients to deliver projects on time and within budget
