Electrical Engineer - Barnstaple, Devon
Job Type: Contract Inside IR35
Rate: £45-55 p/h
Our client is looking for an Electrical Engineer to help deliver mission-critical electrical systems for ships, weapon systems, and communication platforms. If you're a hands-on, detailed-driven individual…then this is the perfect role for you!
What You'll Do
Design and develop electrical systems for sonar, control, and power distribution.
Integrate subsystems into complex defence platforms.
Ensure compliance with MIL-STD, DEF STAN, and EMC standards.
Run testing, validation, and qualification activities.
Produce clear schematics, test documents, and design reports.
Troubleshoot electrical issues across development and in-service equipment.
Support upgrades, obsolescence, and new technology adoption.
Work closely with mechanical, systems, software, and supplier teams.
What You Bring:
Strong electrical system design and analysis skills.
Confident problem solver with a methodical approach.
Experience in defence/aerospace/marine environments.
System integration experience on ships or other large platforms.
Hands-on testing and validation capability.
Solid knowledge of MIL-STD, DEF STAN, EMC.
Skilled documentation and attention to detail.
Team player with strong communication skills.
Experience with Zuken E3, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar tools.
Qualifications:
HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical disciplines
Security Requirements:
UK Sole National
BPSS Cleared
Able to obtain SC
