Job Description

Electrical Design Engineer – Building Services South East (Office-Based with Project Engagement as Required) £50,000 – £60,000 per annum + Benefits Full-time, Permanent Low carbon focus. Design clarity. Meaningful projects. An expanding M&E contractor is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join its growing in-house design team. Working closely with the Design Manager and internal project delivery teams, you’ll be responsible for producing detailed electrical designs across a varied portfolio of commercial, residential, mixed-use, and educational developments. This is a technically hands-on role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in producing coordinated, efficient, and compliant electrical designs. You’ll be involved from early-stage coordination through to project completion—ensuring quality, consistency, and low-carbon outcomes throughout. Why this opportunity * Full-cycle involvement from survey to handover * Varied project portfolio across residential, education, commercial and mixed-use schemes * Structured support from an experienced and engaged design team * Competitive salary, benefits, and career progression within a growing business Key responsibilities * Produce electrical designs, calculations, specifications and equipment schedules in line with project and regulatory requirements * Undertake initial site surveys, including Lidar scanning, to inform early design decisions * Monitor drawing production and carry out technical reviews for accuracy and consistency * Prepare and issue technical submittals, respond to RFIs and support tender queries * Liaise with project teams, consultants and client representatives as needed * Coordinate with internal mechanical and delivery teams to ensure fully integrated solutions * Contribute to energy modelling, lighting calculations and compliance reports * Support the delivery of accurate handover documentation including O&M manuals What we’re looking for * Degree or equivalent in Building Services Engineering or Electrical Engineering * Proven experience in electrical design within the building services industry * Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, Amtech, Relux/DIALux, and Revit * Strong understanding of BS7671, Part L, and other relevant Building Regulations * Interest in sustainable design and low-energy electrical solutions * Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise across multiple projects * Strong communication and stakeholder coordination capabilities * Full UK driving licence The package * £50,000 – £60,000 per annum depending on experience * Company pension scheme * 21 days annual leave plus bank holidays * Ongoing training and structured professional development * Annual performance and progression reviews * Supportive and collaborative working environment If you're an electrical design professional looking to take the next step in a technically focused, delivery-led team—this could be the ideal opportunity to do high-quality work that makes a tangible difference.
