Electrical Technicin (RF)
To carry out electrical requirements and data/signal communications for installation and commissioning of high-power RF amplifiers and connections to the related racks. In addition, provide electrical panel/crate assembly and wiring for new requirements.
Key duties of the post include:
• Responsible for the installation, commissioning and upgrade support for specialist electrical systems, such as control racks, interconnecting wiring and RF coaxial cables; including the installation of cable containment systems (flexible and rigid) on new RF systems.
• Electrical wiring of panels and equipment enclosures of power (including high current/voltages), signals, monitoring and coaxial cables (rigid/flexible).
• Apply specialist knowledge of connector termination (solder, crimp and cage clamp variants) of multipole and coaxial connectors (SMA, N-type, etc.).
• Carry out safety electrical testing to a prescribed test schedule prior to first energisation.
• Complete statutory periodic inspection & testing of electrical systems.
• Complete periodic electrical functional testing of control circuits to prescribed test schedules.
• Assist with fault finding and rectification/repair of RF related systems.
• Report on progress and highlight issues with new projects to the project/design teams. • Liaising with other departments, group members and external contractors to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner.
• Have a flexible approach to working conditions and environment.
• Supervision of Agency / Contractor / Apprentice electricians as assigned.
• Computer literate.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
• Good problem solving skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative.
• Good communication skills (verbal/written) and able to work and interact with people at all levels
• Flexible approach to the working conditions and environment.
• Prepared to learn new skills.
• Proven record of supervising other people.
• Familiarity with RF coaxial cables and RF connectors assembly
• Knowledge and experience of high-power RF transmission lines (rigid coaxial, WR1800 waveguide)
• Good work planning and organisational skills, with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks to meet project timescales (project planning).
Desirable
• Effective team worker.
• Experience with LV Electrical systems.
• LV inspection and testing.
• Electrical cabling to 17th/18th Edition Wiring Regs.
• Familiarity with using Safe Systems of work, permits, risk assessments, etc.
• Working to electrical drawings.
• BS7671 Wiring Regulations Qualification or equivalent knowledge. D
Qualifications
• The Applicant should have served a recognised Apprenticeship in an appropriate Engineering discipline, and to have gained a minimum of ONC qualification. Applicants with relevant or equivalent on-the job experience will also be considered.
