Rise10 Recruitment are proud to be partnering with a well-established engineering and automation business to recruit an Electrician for its growing team based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified electrician looking to develop their career within a specialist engineering environment. While experience with electrical control panels would be advantageous, previous panel building experience is not essential. Full support and training will be provided for the right candidate with a solid electrical background and a willingness to learn.
The role is primarily based at the company's St Ives facility, with frequent travel to customer sites across the UK for installation, commissioning support, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
The Role
As an Electrician, you'll be responsible for assembling, wiring, testing, installing, and supporting bespoke electrical systems used within industrial and automated production environments. Working closely with the Electrical Manager and engineering team, you'll ensure all work is completed to the highest quality and safety standards.
* Assemble and wire bespoke electrical control panels, motor control centres (MCCs), and distribution boards from engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.
* Install and terminate electrical components including contactors, relays, circuit breakers, variable speed drives (VSDs), PLCs, HMIs, and associated control equipment.
* Carry out continuity, insulation resistance, and functional testing of completed electrical systems.
* Assist with on-site electrical installations, commissioning, and customer support.
* Identify and report discrepancies between drawings and completed work, working alongside engineers to resolve any issues.
* Complete build documentation, testing records, and quality documentation accurately.
* Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities where required.
* Maintain a safe, organised, and tidy workshop environment.
* Contribute to continuous improvements in build processes and workshop efficiency.
* Work to production schedules while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
* Support and mentor apprentices or junior team members when appropriate.
Essential
* Recognised electrical qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent.
* Experience as an electrician within industrial, manufacturing, commercial, or engineering environments.
* Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
* Competent using electrical hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Willingness to travel regularly to customer sites across the UK.
Desirable
* Previous experience building or wiring electrical control panels (beneficial but not essential).
* Experience within industrial automation, food processing, manufacturing, or similar sectors.
* Familiarity with PLC hardware such as Siemens S7 or Allen-Bradley.
* Knowledge of variable speed drives (VSDs).
* Understanding of IEC 61439 or similar panel construction standards.
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification or awareness.
* HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
We're looking for someone with experience, or a genuine interest in, electrical panel assembly and wiring, cable termination, ferrule crimping, cable management, and the installation of PLCs, drives, safety relays, HMIs, and other electrical equipment. You'll be confident using electrical testing equipment such as insulation resistance testers, multimeters, and continuity testers, with the ability to interpret electrical drawings, including EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical schematics.
Occasional weekend work will be required to support installations. Overtime is paid for all hours worked over 40 per week, with all travel expenses covered and site allowances provided when working away.
