Position Overview
The Electrical Maintenance Tradesperson is responsible for performing electrical installation, fault-finding, repair, and preventative maintenance tasks to ensure the safe and reliable operation of plant, equipment, and building electrical systems. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, compliance with statutory requirements, and a high standard of technical workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
Conduct preventative, corrective, and reactive maintenance on electrical equipment, systems, and infrastructure.
Diagnose and rectify faults in electrical circuits, motors, control systems, lighting, switchboards, and distribution networks.
Test, inspect, and verify electrical installations to meet legislative and organisational standards.
Perform equipment overhauls, component replacements, and electrical upgrades.
Assist with commissioning of new electrical equipment and systems.
Safety & Compliance
Work in accordance with WHS/OHS legislation, electrical safety regulations, and relevant standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3000).
Complete permits to work, isolation/LOTO procedures, JSA/SWMS, and risk assessments.
Ensure all work is compliant with local electrical licensing requirements.
Report hazards, incidents, and equipment defects promptly.
Maintain PPE and electrical tools (e.g., testing equipment) in safe working condition.
Technical & Operational Tasks
Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
Use electrical testing instruments (e.g., multimeters, insulation testers, loop testers) accurately and safely.
Work with LV and (if licensed) HV systems.
Perform routine inspections of electrical plant and building services systems.
Maintain reliable operation of motors, VSDs, PLCs, pumps, conveyors, and control panels (industry-specific).
Documentation & Reporting
Complete job cards, service reports, and inspection records.
Maintain accurate asset and maintenance data within CMMS systems (e.g., SAP, Pronto, MEX).
Provide recommendations for improvements, parts sourcing, and corrective actions.
Teamwork & Communication
Work collaboratively with other trades, production teams, and contractors.
Provide technical support and guidance to apprentices or less experienced team members.
