We are looking for an Electronic Design Engineer to join our engineering team and support the design, development and testing of electronic products and systems.
This role would suit an engineer with around two years of commercial experience who has a good grounding in electronic hardware design alongside some embedded firmware development experience. You will be involved in projects from initial concept and design through to prototyping, testing and production support.
Electronic Design Engineer - Key responsibilities
Design and development of electronic circuits for new and existing products.
PCB schematic capture, design and layout.
Selection and evaluation of electronic components.
Development and testing of prototype electronic assemblies.
Writing and modifying embedded firmware for PICs, microcontrollers and similar devices.
Programming primarily in C and assembler.
Debugging hardware and firmware issues during product development.
Using standard electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies and logic analysers.
Carrying out functional testing, fault finding and troubleshooting of electronic circuits and PCB assemblies.
Supporting product verification, validation and design testing.
Producing and maintaining engineering documentation, including schematics, PCB documentation, test information and design records.
Working closely with other engineers and technical teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
Supporting the transition of new designs into manufacture.
Assisting with component obsolescence, design changes and improvements to existing products.
Ensuring designs are developed with consideration for reliability, manufacturability, cost and relevant technical standards.
Electronic Design Engineer - Experience and skills
Approximately two years of experience within an electronics or electronic design engineering environment.
Good understanding of analogue and digital electronic circuit design.
Experience of PCB schematic capture, PCB design and layout.
Experience developing embedded firmware using C.
Some experience of assembler programming.
Experience programming PICs, microcontrollers or similar embedded devices.
Ability to read and understand electronic schematics, datasheets and technical documentation.
Practical experience of electronic prototyping, testing, debugging and fault finding.
Familiarity with standard laboratory and electronic test equipment.
Electronic Design Engineer - Qualifications
A degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems or a related engineering discipline would be advantageous.
Equivalent practical industry experience will also be considered.
Electronic Design Engineer - Candidate profile
We are looking for a practical and enthusiastic engineer who enjoys working across both hardware and firmware.
