Electronic Design Engineer - Cost Reduction & Optimisation
Cheltenham - Hybrid Working
£52,000 - £64,500 + Bonus & additional benefits
Are you an Electronics Engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges while making a real impact on product performance and affordability? This is a unique opportunity to join a cross-functional engineering team dedicated to driving cost reduction and design optimisation in advanced electronic systems.
In this role, you'll work on real production products, analysing designs, identifying opportunities for cost savings, and ensuring seamless implementation of changes - without compromising on quality, safety, or performance. You'll collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, procurement, and even directly with customers, playing a pivotal role in shaping cost-effective solutions that deliver lasting value.
What You'll Do
- Analyse products and processes to identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Evaluate how design changes impact performance, reliability, and compliance.
- Drive design changes through prototyping, testing, and documentation.
- Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
- Engage with customers to communicate changes and ensure alignment.
- Apply lean and continuous improvement principles to maximise efficiency.
- Manage risks associated with design changes to protect product integrity.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
What We're Looking For
- Degree in Electronics or related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Proven industry experience in electronics design, manufacturing, or cost optimisation.
- Strong understanding of electronic systems, components, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with design-for-cost principles and value engineering.
- Proficiency with CAD tools, simulation software, and engineering platforms.
- Excellent communication skills - able to present technical and cost strategies clearly.
- Creative, analytical thinker with a track record of innovative problem-solving.
- Experience in highly regulated industries (aerospace, automotive, defence, etc.) is highly desirable.
Security Clearance: This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance.
