Electronic Repair Technician * Industrial Electronics – Component-Level Repair * Northern Power Electronics Ltd * Location: Newcastle upon Tyne / Tyne and Wear * Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time * Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm * Salary: circa£27000- £32,000 per year, depending on experience, plus performance-related bonus About Northern Power Electronics Northern Power Electronics Ltd is a growing specialist engineering company providing component-level repair, refurbishment and testing services for industrial electronic and electrical equipment. We hold ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditation). We support customers across manufacturing, energy, offshore, process industries and heavy engineering, where equipment failure can result in costly downtime. Our workshop repairs a wide range of modern, legacy and obsolete equipment, including power supplies, AC/DC drives, servo systems, control equipment and industrial electronic assemblies. We are looking for a practical and motivated Industrial Electronics Repair Technician to join our technical team in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a hands-on position offering varied and technically challenging work, with opportunities for training and long-term career progression. Key Responsibilities Diagnose faults in industrial electronic assemblies and electrical systems down to component level Understand electronic component operation, failure modes and circuit behaviour Use oscilloscopes, multimeters and other diagnostic equipment to identify faults and root causes Repair switch-mode power supplies, AC/DC drives, servo systems, control equipment and other industrial electronics Carry out high-quality soldering and desoldering of through-hole and surface-mount components Identify and replace faulty semiconductors, capacitors, relays, contactors and associated components Interpret circuit diagrams, PCB layouts and technical documentation Carry out fault-finding on electrical control systems and industrial automation equipment Work on legacy and unsupported equipment where technical documentation may be limited Test repaired equipment safely and effectively in accordance with established procedures Maintain accurate repair records and technical documentation Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining high standards of workmanship Follow workshop health, safety and quality procedures Essential Skills and Experience Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable electronic engineering knowledge and experience Strong understanding of electronic and electrical circuit principles Practical soldering and desoldering experience Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams, PCB layouts and technical documentation Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters and electronic test equipment Logical and methodical approach to component-level fault-finding Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality Ability to work independently and as part of a team Good communication and documentation skills Willingness to learn and work on unfamiliar equipment Full UK driving licence (occasional travel to customer/project sites is required) Desirable Experience Experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous: Switch-mode power supplies AC/DC motor drives Servo drives and control systems PLC-related equipment Industrial automation and electrical controls Power electronics Legacy or obsolete industrial equipment Surface-mount component repair Candidates do not need experience in every area. Training and support will be provided to the right person with a strong engineering foundation, practical ability and a genuine interest in industrial repair. The practical assessment may include: Basic electronic fault-finding Use of a multimeter and/or oscilloscope Reading and interpreting circuit diagrams Identification and testing of electronic components Soldering and desoldering General practical electronics knowledge and problem-solving The practical assessment forms an important part of our recruitment process and is used to evaluate hands-on technical ability as well as theoretical knowledge
