Job Description

Electronics Engineer (R&D) A specialist UK electronics manufacturer is looking for an Electronics Engineer to join its in-house R&D team. They design and build advanced sensing and instrumentation products for demanding professional markets, with everything from concept to production handled under one roof - so you'd follow a design from a blank schematic through to units coming off the line. What the role involves You'd be designing circuits and assemblies for both new products and revisions to existing ones - a genuine mix of analogue, digital, power, video and embedded work. Day to day that means schematic capture, guiding PCB layout, working alongside firmware and mechanical engineers to bring FPGA, microcontroller, sensor and display interfaces together, then getting hands-on with bring-up, debug and fault-finding once boards arrive. You'd also support EMC and environmental testing, contribute to design reviews, and help transfer designs cleanly into manufacture. The products are compact and ruggedised, built to survive real-world abuse, so designing for reliability and manufacturability genuinely matters here. What they're looking for A degree (or equivalent hands-on background) in electronic or electrical engineering Circuit design experience on high-performance products - defence, aerospace, scientific, industrial or similar Solid grounding in analogue and digital design, plus schematic capture and PCB design Confident with a scope, logic analyser and bench kit, and able to debug at board and system level Some exposure to embedded systems, microcontrollers, FPGA interfaces or sensor integration Nice to have: Altium, low-power and battery-powered design, serial and high-speed interfaces (LVDS, USB, Ethernet, SPI, I²C, UART, CAN), EMC design principles, experience of ruggedised product development
