Senior Test Engineer - Electronics / Manufacturing
Salary: Circa £45,000
Location: On-site 4 - 5 days per week
British Citizenship required
A major defence engineering organisation is looking for an Electronics Test Engineer to join its manufacturing function. This role is a key part of ensuring electronic and electro-mechanical products meet strict quality and reliability standards across the entire lifecycle.
The opportunity
You’ll support the testing and diagnostics of electronic sub-systems and circuit cards, working from early design concepts through to production readiness and full-scale manufacture. The position combines hands-on test engineering, technical problem-solving, and close collaboration with operations, design and wider engineering teams.
You’ll contribute to the introduction of new test facilities, ensure robust configuration control, generate supporting documentation, and help maintain a high-performing test capability across multiple programmes. The role is suited to someone who enjoys detailed fault-finding, thrives in a fast-moving production environment, and can balance quality, cost and schedule pressures.
What you'll be doing
* Supporting test engineering activities from concept through to release into operations
* Providing technical support to the manufacturing test capability
* Supporting test facility introduction and ensuring equipment is correctly controlled and documented
* Testing and diagnosing failures on electronic sub-assemblies and circuit cards down to component level
* Working closely with design, operations and other engineering stakeholders to resolve issues
* Maintaining alignment with programme targets and test engineering governance
* Contributing to continuous improvement across test processes
You’ll be part of a small, experienced team with a broad mix of apprentices, graduates and senior engineers working across multiple high-integrity products in development and production.
What you’ll need
* HNC/HND/Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
* Experience in analogue/digital electronics manufacture and test
* Strong understanding of electrical test principles, measurement equipment and fault-finding techniques
* Experience with manual and automated test equipment in a manufacturing or defence environment
* Familiarity with ERP/MES systems such as SAP or MES for test activity recording and non-conformance control
* Ability to plan and prioritise workload across multiple tasks
* Clear communication skills, with experience producing test specs, operator instructions and technical reports
* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
