ELSA Teaching Assistant - Special School, Patchway Bristol
Are you an ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) qualified Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role in a supportive special school environment?
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team in Patchway, Bristol, starting immediately/this September 2025.
This role requires an individual trained and experienced in ELSA.
Your responsibilities will include:
Classroom Support:
Working alongside the class teacher to support the delivery of lessons
Assisting with classroom organisation, preparing resources, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
Supporting the teacher with managing classroom behaviour.
Supporting Learning and Development:
Supporting pupils' engagement in learning activities, encouraging independence and participation.
Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
Providing emotional support and promoting positive social interactions among pupils.
Collaboration and Communication:
Working effectively as part of the school team, collaborating with teachers, the SENDCo, and other support staff.
Communicating relevant information about pupil progress and well-being to the class teacher and SENDCo.
Potentially liaising with parents/carers under the direction of the class teacher or SENDCo.Candidate Profile:
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Teaching Assistant trained in ELSA (Emotional Language Support Assistant), with experience in a primary school setting and a strong understanding of supporting pupils with SEND. The ideal candidate will possess:
Experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school.
Proven experience and understanding of supporting pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
A patient, nurturing, and understanding approach to working with children.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Resilience and the ability to adapt to different classroom environments and pupil needs.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Availability to work full-time, Monday to Friday during term time.Qualifications:
ELSA (Emotional Language Support Assistant)
Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3) or demonstrable equivalent experience is highly desirable.
