EMS Lead – Environmental Management Systems
Location: Reading / Hybrid (occasional site visits)
Type: Contract – Umbrella (INSIDE IR35)
About the Role
Ceto Talent are recruiting for our client, seeking an experienced EMS Lead to play a pivotal role in enhancing and strengthening the organisation’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
Working within the Integrated Management System (IMS) team, you’ll consult with key stakeholders to develop and secure approval for a multi-year EMS improvement plan, supporting business objectives, regulatory obligations, and the potential future pursuit of ISO 14001 certification.
This is offering the chance to deliver meaningful improvements to environmental performance and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Scope and execute the internal EMS audit programme, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and internal performance goals.
* Review, develop, and refine documented business processes and procedures to meet environmental regulations and permit requirements.
* Act as a subject matter expert, supporting the organisation in learning from environmental nonconformances and embedding improvements to prevent recurrence.
* Provide strong stakeholder engagement, consulting across teams to secure buyin for EMS enhancements.
* Consolidate and package all work completed during the contract, producing a robust handover to the incoming permanent EMS Lead.
Skills & Experience
* Substantial experience working with Environmental Management Systems, with a solid understanding of regulatory frameworks and ISO 14001 principles.
* Proven ability to lead internal audits and develop or improve business processes to ensure regulatory compliance.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, able to consult effectively across different teams.
* Excellent organisational abilities, able to work independently and deliver structured, highquality outcomes within fixed timeframes.
* Confident acting as a subject matter expert, with the ability to translate complex compliance needs into clear, practical actions.
* Experience in the water sector or other highly regulated industries would be an advantage.
Qualifications
* Relevant environmental qualifications, alongside practical experience leading EMS initiatives.
* Familiarity with ISO 14001 certification processes is highly desirable.
