Engineering Manager Location: Portlaoise, Co. Laois Salary: €100,000-€120,000+ (DOE) Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Benefits: Company car, 5% pension, healthcare, EAP, career progression, professional development support About the role We're recruiting an Engineering Manager for a leading Irish civil engineering contractor delivering large-scale infrastructure, public realm, and utilities projects nationwide. This is a senior role with responsibility for technical leadership, standards, and delivery across multiple live projects. You'll be the go-to technical lead for project teams, ensuring adherence to engineering best practices, buildability, cost efficiency, and safety compliance. This role will suit someone with strong heavy civils experience (roads, drainage, utilities, groundworks, structures) who is ready to step into, or continue in, an influential leadership position. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the engineering function across several live projects. Provide day-to-day technical support, guidance, and mentoring to Site Engineers, Senior Engineers, and Site Management. Oversee setting out, quality control, and technical assurance on site. Review/approve temporary works designs, method statements and construction methodologies. Ensure that all work is delivered in line with Irish standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements. Drive compliance with Health & Safety legislation, Construction Regulations, and internal safety systems. Liaise with design teams, consultants, clients, and local authorities to resolve technical issues and keep programmes on track. Support pre-construction/tender activities with buildability and methodology input. Implement and maintain quality, environmental, and safety management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001). Lead problem-solving and value engineering initiatives across the business. Support the development of junior/graduate engineers and build a strong technical culture within the team.What we're looking for Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline). Chartered Engineer status (CEng MIEI) with Engineers Ireland, OR actively working towards chartership. 7+ years' civil engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a senior engineer/engineering management capacity. Proven experience delivering heavy civil works in Ireland (roads, utilities, drainage, groundworks, public realm, etc.). Strong understanding of Irish design standards, Public Works Contracts, NEC, and QA processes. High level of competence in surveying, setting out, and use of instruments. Proficiency with AutoCAD and construction planning tools. Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
