Thrive Group are recruiting an Engineering Quality Manager for our well established client in the Merthyr Area.
Position Overview:
The Engineering, Facilities, and Quality Manager is responsible for leading the technical and operational integrity of a Polyurethane Extrusion Production Facility. This role encompasses oversight of factory automation systems, robotics, and PLC programming, alongside facility management and quality assurance processes. The manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring production efficiency, safety, and adherence to quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering & Automation:
Oversee and optimize factory automation systems, including robotics and PLC-controlled processes, to ensure reliable and efficient production.
Develop, implement, and maintain PLC programming for automated systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with robotics, control systems, and production equipment.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies and equipment upgrades.
Ensure proper documentation of automation systems, including electrical schematics, PLC logic, and software versions.
understands engineering principles, enabling them to use complex systems and provide project guidance. Knowledge of these principles enables them to innovate and devise efficient strategies to help optimise team performance and project outcomes.
apply technical writing skills to produce clear and comprehensive documents, such as project reports, operation manuals and proposals.
knowledge of relevant industry regulations to ensure that work processes and outcomes comply with legal regulations. Examples of such regulations may include safety and industry-specific standards and environmental regulations.
project management skills to organise tasks, manage timelines and control budgets. These skills contribute to the efficient execution of projects.

Technical Background Experience up to 5 years+
Ability to read/understand engineering drawings.Quality Assurance:
Lead quality control initiatives to meet or exceed customer expectations and industry standards.
Implement and monitor quality assurance systems, including ISO certifications and other applicable standards.
Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues, ensuring robust solutions.
Collaborate with the production team to develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs).Leadership & Collaboration:
Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and accountability.
Act as a liaison between engineering, production, and quality teams to align priorities and objectives.
Provide technical training and support to team members to enhance operational capabilities.
Support and guide the team with customer complains / returns / process issues using 8D analysis techniques to determine root cause, corrective and prevention actions.
Liaise with customers and suppliers where problems are related to quality issues.
Plan and drive continuous improvement activities within the business.Safety & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations within the facility.
Conduct risk assessments and enforce safety measures related to equipment and facility operations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies.Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
Mechanical Engineering qualification.
Knowledge of ISO9001 and AS9100.
Proven experience in a senior quality engineering role within manufacturing is essential.
Ability to lead investigations and improvement activities within different areas of the business.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in factory automation, robotics, or PLC programming.
Experience in polyurethane extrusion or similar manufacturing processes is highly preferred.
Proven experience in facilities management and quality assurance leadership roles.Technical Skills:
Proficient in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar platforms).
Hands-on experience with industrial robotics and automation systems.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Familiarity with ISO standards and other quality management systems.
Proven experience of implementing lean and continual improvement tools such as 8D; 5S; Kaizen and Visual Management.
Supporting customer and third-party audits.Leadership & Soft Skills:
Strong project management and organisational skills.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Effective communication and leadership capabilities to manage cross-functional teams.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
PC literate with a good working knowledge of Windows based applications.
Ability to produce professional documents and standard operating procedures.Days Early finish on a Friday
