Job Title: Engineering Shift Lead

Salary: £55,247 + Benefits
We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Shift Lead to oversee and support the engineering team within a busy FMCG manufacturing environment. In this role, you will lead your shift to provide technical expertise, ensure plant reliability, maximise operational efficiency, and minimise costs. You will play a vital role in maintaining production equipment, site facilities, and services while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
As Engineering Shift Lead, you will supervise and lead a team of Engineers, ensuring effective shift performance and smooth handovers. You will provide engineering support to minimise downtime and maximise production efficiency, while managing both planned and unplanned maintenance activities. A key part of the role is ensuring all maintenance records and auditable paperwork are completed accurately, as well as organising and controlling workshop spares and stock. You will ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, investigating risks and near misses when necessary.
The role requires you to mentor apprentices and junior engineers, encouraging knowledge sharing and development across the team. You will drive a proactive culture of preventative and predictive maintenance, lead shift meetings to resolve issues effectively, and support cross-functional teamwork. In addition, you will play a key role in project implementation and business improvement initiatives, promoting a strong quality culture and continuously challenging existing processes to improve efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills:
To be successful in this role, you will have completed a recognised apprenticeship in electrical and/or mechanical engineering and be able to demonstrate strong leadership and supervisory experience. You will have good numeracy, literacy, and IT skills, along with proven ability to manage performance within an engineering team. Experience within FMCG manufacturing is desirable, as is knowledge of engineering drive systems, electrical control (HMIs, profibus PLCs), hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and holding a forklift truck licence.
