Location:Barnsley
Contract:Full-time, Temporary (Autumn Term)
Start Date:September 2026
Duration:One Term
Salary:Competitive, dependent on experience

PK Education are working with a secondary school in Barnsley who are seeking an Acting Head of Design Technologyto lead the department for the Autumn Term.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Technology teacher or current middle leader looking to step into a leadership role within a well-established and supportive department.

The timetable will predominantly consist of KS4 Engineering, with responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day running of the department, supporting colleagues, and ensuring high standards of teaching and learning are maintained throughout the term.

The school has invested heavily in its Technology provision, with well-equipped workshops, excellent technician support, and Engineering continuing to be a popular and successful option at GCSE.

The Role

Teaching predominantly KS4 Engineering

Acting as Head of Design Technology for the Autumn Term

Leading the department on a day-to-day basis

Supporting curriculum delivery and maintaining high standards

Monitoring student progress and achievement

Working closely with Senior Leadership and the wider Technology faculty

What We're Looking For

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

Experience teaching Design Technology, Engineering, Product Design, or Resistant Materials

Previous middle leadership experience, or a teacher ready to take the next step into leadership Strong organisational and communication skills

Confident leading a team and maintaining high expectations

Passion for delivering outstanding practical education

The school has a strong reputation for supporting staff, clear behaviour systems, and a collaborative leadership team who will provide ongoing support throughout the assignment.
