English Teacher

Justteachers is seeking a dedicated, adaptable and resilient English Teacher to join a specialist Alternative Provision in the Harrogate area. This full-time position is available for an immediate start, with shortlisting currently taking place.

This provision supports learners who have experienced barriers to mainstream education. Classes are small, personalised and focused on building confidence, engagement and core English skills. Pupils often work below GCSE expectations, so a flexible, creative and patient teaching approach is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  * Delivering GCSE English and Entry-Level English to small groups of disengaged or vulnerable learners

  * Adapting lessons to support pupils working significantly below KS4 expectations

  * Creating a calm, structured and supportive classroom environment

  * Using relationship‑centred and trauma‑informed approaches to boost engagement and progress

  * Supporting literacy development through phonics, functional literacy tasks and scaffolded learning

  * Working collaboratively with behaviour mentors, pastoral teams and intervention staff

  * Monitoring and recording pupil progress in line with provision requirements

To Be Considered for This Role, Candidates Must Have:

  * Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent

  * Strong subject knowledge in English at GCSE level

  * Experience teaching in SEND, SEMH or Alternative Provision settings (highly desirable)

  * Confident behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  * A patient, resilient and relational approach to teaching

  * The ability to create differentiated resources tailored to individual learning needs

  * Two or more professional references from an educational setting
