The Role:
We are seeking a committed and compassionate SEN English Teacher to join a Special Educational Needs school in Portsmouth. The school caters to children with moderate to complex learning needs, and they pride themselves on providing a nurturing, supportive environment where every pupil can thrive.
As an SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality English education tailored to the unique needs of each pupil. You will develop and implement bespoke learning plans that accommodate varied ability levels, ensuring every child has access to engaging, accessible, and meaningful learning experiences.
Responsibilities:
Design and deliver individualised English lessons, adapting content, pace, and teaching methods to suit pupils’ diverse learning profiles.
Assess pupils’ progress regularly and adjust learning strategies to maximise development and engagement.
Collaborate closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and families to support holistic development.
Create a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere that fosters confidence, communication, and creativity.
Utilize a range of specialist resources and assistive technologies to support learning.
Maintain detailed records of pupils’ achievements and challenges, reporting progress to senior staff and parents.
Engage in ongoing professional development focused on SEN best practices and innovative teaching approaches.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience in SEN education, particularly with moderate to complex learning needs.
A complete understanding of individualised education plans (IEPs) and differentiated instruction.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with patience and empathy.
Creativity in developing engaging, multi-sensory learning activities tailored to individual pupils.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Commitment to ongoing learning and reflective practice to continually improve teaching effectiveness.
