Specialist English Teacher Required - Long-Term Role in Rochdale Pupil Referral Service (PRS)

Tradewind Recruitment is proud to be supporting a vital Pupil Referral Service (PRS) in the Rochdale Borough, in their search for a dedicated English Teacher to join their team for a long-term placement starting this autumn term.
From September 2025, the PRU will be based on one site in Rochdale and supports pupils from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4, many of whom face significant challenges related to social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The service provides education for some of the borough's most vulnerable pupils, including those who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion, as well as those struggling to access mainstream education due to emotional or behavioural difficulties.
About the Role
As an English Teacher within the PRS, you will play a crucial role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning. You will be delivering GCSE English Language and other literacy-based qualifications, tailored to meet individual learning needs and ability levels. The focus is on re-engagement with education, developing core skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening, and nurturing emotional resilience.
The successful candidate will be passionate about inclusion, committed to trauma-informed practice, and ready to build strong, positive relationships with pupils who may have experienced significant disruption to their education.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, deliver and assess inclusive and differentiated English lessons for pupils from KS3 to KS4, including GCSE English Language and alternative literacy qualifications
Develop creative, flexible approaches to teaching that support re-engagement with learning and foster confidence in literacy
Build strong, respectful relationships with pupils based on consistency, empathy, and high expectations
Support students with SEMH needs, using strategies such as restorative practice, clear boundaries, and positive reinforcement
Monitor progress and provide constructive, personalised feedback to students and their parents/carers
Collaborate with teaching assistants, behaviour mentors, SENCOs, and wider pastoral staff to ensure joined-up support for all learners
Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience and self-belief alongside academic achievement
Contribute to a safe, supportive and structured learning environment where every young person can feel valued and capableTo be successful in this PRS English Teacher role, you will need:
QTS or QTLS status
Recent experience teaching English to students aged 10-16, ideally within alternative provision or a high-SEN setting
Strong understanding of working with pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviour
Experience teaching towards GCSE English Language or Functional Skills English
A full, detailed CV including education/employment history and clear explanations for any gaps
