English Teacher – SEMH – Small Classes
A welcoming and structured school is seeking a committed English Teacher to teach small classes of students with SEMH needs who have faced significant barriers to education. This is a rewarding opportunity for an English Teacher who is passionate about re-engaging learners, building confidence, and supporting positive outcomes through high-quality teaching and strong relationships.
As an English Teacher in this setting, you will work with small groups of students, delivering engaging and accessible English lessons tailored to individual needs. Students may present with SEMH needs, anxiety, and challenging behaviours, so strong classroom management and a calm, consistent approach are essential. You will be supported by a strong leadership team and a dedicated group of pastoral and support staff who work closely together to ensure students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
Job role:
Teaching English to small classes of students with SEMH needs
Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated English lessons
Adapting the curriculum to meet individual learning and emotional needs
Managing behaviour positively and consistently in line with school expectations
Building strong, trusting relationships with students
Working collaboratively with support staff, pastoral teams, and leadership
Monitoring progress and supporting students to achieve academic and personal goalsThe ideal candidate will have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
Experience teaching English at secondary level (SEMH, PRU, or alternative provision experience desirable)
Strong subject knowledge in English
Excellent behaviour management and communication skills
A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach to teaching
