What will you be doing
We are looking for an enthusiastic and competent Environmental Advisor to work within our Transmission and Renewables business. We are a leading partner in the largest programme of energy infrastructure upgrade works in the UK since the construction of the National Grid.
This role will be site based, and we are recruiting to support our Scottish clients, although there may be occasional travel to England and Wales. Therefore a driving licence, willingness to travel and overnight stays are essential requirements.
As an Environmental Advisor, You will need to be able to competently review information and extract the key elements to inform the site teams you are working with. This will also include surveys for construction and reinstatement stages of projects. Written responses to tender questions, including risks, opportunities, innovations and so on are key to our success in winning future work.
We’re looking for someone with an active interest in environmental and sustainability issues and a knowledge of subjects such as waste management, data analysis, sustainability issues, cultural heritage, consents, pollution, water management. Due to the vast amount of subject matter that you may experience within the role, on the job training and mentoring is provided to improve any gaps in knowledge.
Working alongside the Environment and Sustainability Manager, this role will directly influence the way the company is run through the development, maintenance and implementation of environmental management procedures and processes to ensure the business is legally compliant and delivers continual improvement, good practices and dissemination of such to others.
Responsible for day-to-day environmental management of high-profile projects, working directly with site teams and customer representatives.
Tailor the explanation of complex technical information to different site teams and third parties.
Provide specialist support in ecological, environmental and sustainability matters across the business. This includes addressing wider environmental risks and providing advice, training, controls and mitigation for site based projects.
Be involved the selection and management of third party contractors undertaking ecological and environmental works
Written responses to tender questions, including risks, opportunities, innovations etc..
Surveys for construction and reinstatement stages of projects.
Working alongside our specialist partners and internal colleagues you will develop costs and ensure programmes and working methodologies are achievable and suitable to the work package.
What you'll bring:
Degree educated in a relevant subject
Minimum of 3 years relevant environmental experience
Knowledge and experience of environmental survey methods, assessment techniques, mitigation and control measures
Interest and knowledge of environment / sustainability issues
Excellent verbal and demonstrable written communication skills
Ability to build rapport and influence others to make decisions
Able to effectively converse and deliver information to varied audiences.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Wide breadth of knowledge
Ability to problem solve to make educated and pragmatic decisions
Time management skills - able to work to deadlines and prioritise workload
Demonstrable research and analytical skills
Excellent computer literacy
A knowledge of the H&S requirements associated with working on a construction site
Valid driving licence within the UK and willingness to travel.Desirable:
Experience of hydrological or peat assessments, archaeology, waste management or sustainability initiatives.
Membership of an environmental institution
Specialist knowledge or experience i.e. ecology, hydrology, archaeology, peat, waste, sustainability etc.
Experience of consents, assents, licences and permits
Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems and auditing
Understanding of key sustainability issues
Experience of working in an environmental capacity in a construction environment
Experience of the selection and management of third party contractorsWhat’s in it for you?
