Job Description

Location: Project/Site based, Somerset (With occasional meetings at other Project offices in Bristol. Infrequent weekend working may be required) Status: Contract INSIDE IR35 Duration: Predicted longer term contract roles Morson Talent are working with a major player in the Energy Sector who have current requirements for Environmental Advisors (varying levels of experience/discipline) to join their established site-based team in Somerset. This is a uniquely interesting opportunity to contribute towards and gain valuable experience on one of Europe’s largest Energy infrastructure/construction Projects. Overview The Environmental Advisor is responsible for understanding the legislation and permits that govern environmental activity on the Project site and ensuring that the contractors and consultants working on the construction site comply with these regulations. They will adopt the ethos see it, sort it and report it. This involves identifying shortcomings and providing guidance to the contractors on how improvements can be achieved. A key part of the role will be interfacing with the environment teams within the contract partner organisations as well as those carrying out the works. This means that Environmental Advisors will need to develop relationships with key stakeholders across the Project workforce to ensure environmental standards are achieved and they will be required to maintain an up-to-date database of inspections, audits, and actions. Post holders will provide advice and guidance to ensure the smooth operation of the Project, as well as effectively reporting environmental / compliance issues in a timely manner. Typical Accountabilities Undertaking site inspections of Contractors’ work areas and relaying observations and/or reporting environmental issues where necessary Provision of written and verbal advice on compliance with UK legislation, environmental permits, and environmental planning constraints for all activities on site. Authoring and reviewing of Contractors’ environmental management plans to ensure they are compliant with environmental regulations and the business standards. Support in the self-assessment and internal audit of site activities to ensure compliance against applicable legislation, the business processes and procedures and environmental best practice. Supporting and leading on investigations of environmental incidents, including the provision of reports and recommended actions to prevent re-occurrence of incidents. Interrogate and interpret environmental data to ensure relevant conditions are met – e.g. Development Consent Order (DCO) requirements. Supporting (environmental support) on Invitations to Tender and site contracts. Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Knowledge & Skills Essential Detailed knowledge of environmental legislation in the UK relevant to a construction site, plus knowledge of the supporting guidance, reference notes, industry best practice Awareness of the client/contractor relationship and legal responsibilities under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 Must be able to work independently and demonstrate excellent communication/interpersonal and influencing skills A well-developed skill-set with regards to the communication with, and management of, sub-contractors Qualifications & Experience Essential Typically degree qualified or equivalent in an environmental or related discipline Experience of operating within an environmental management system (EMS) conforming to recognised standards (BS EN ISO14001:2004), including the development of procedures to meet the requirements of the EMS Experience of working within a dynamic construction environment with site-based experience Experience of working with and developing good relationships with the regulators (e.g. Environment Agency, Natural England, Local Authorities, Marine Management Organisation) Desirable Experience in soil and materials management (CL:AIRE protocol) is desirable. Experience in EPR permit compliance is desirable
