Purpose of the Role
The Environmental Lead will be responsible for driving environmental performance and coordination across the EGL2 Integrated Joint Venture (IJV). The role ensures EGL2 meets its business objectives in environmental management, compliance, and sustainable construction. This individual will be a key influencer and advocate, ensuring excellence in environmental outcomes across the project lifecycle.
Key Accountabilities
Lead development and implementation of environmental processes and systems within the EGL2 IJV.
Support EGL2 and its supply chain to ensure legal compliance and drive continuous improvement in environmental and sustainable construction management.
Act as a recognised subject matter expert and trusted advisor in environmental management across the IJV.
Lead and mentor a team of environmental professionals to ensure collaboration and effective coordination throughout the project.
Provide visible environmental engagement and proactive support across EGL2 and its supply chain.
Drive the delivery of the National Grid Offshore Environment & Sustainability portfolio strategy within EGL2, including development of project-specific initiatives.
Promote a high-performing, ethical, and results-driven team culture.
Advise the EGL2 project team on their environmental and sustainability obligations.
Implement and maintain overarching environmental management plans and systems for the project.
Collaborate with National Grid, SSE, and contractor organisations to ensure contractual, legal, and business compliance.
Monitor and interpret performance data to identify risk, compliance gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
Work alongside the National Grid Lead Sustainability and Environmental Specialist to prepare monthly environmental and sustainability performance reports.
Provide incident management expertise and support for environmental issues.
Foster and promote a positive SHES (Safety, Health, Environment & Sustainability) culture through consistent and visible leadership behaviours.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with the confidence to engage at all levels of the organisation.
Effective communicator with the ability to build positive and productive relationships.
Demonstrated enthusiasm for continuous improvement and experience in managing change.
Professional presence with the ability to influence and lead.
A strong passion for promoting and embedding a positive environmental culture.
Excellent organisational, planning, and time management capabilities.
Experience of working with regulatory agencies and other external stakeholders.
A current driving licence (essential due to travel requirements across England and Scotland)
