Environmental Permitting Manager Location: Offices in Reading, Cardiff, or Warrington (with hybrid working – home-based with travel as required) Salary: Up to £55,000 per year + £6,300 car allowance Hours: Full-time, Permanent About the Role Up Front Recruitment is working with a leading remediation and brownfield enabling works contractor to recruit an Environmental Permitting Manager. This is a key role within the Strategic Development team, responsible for developing and delivering operational and regulatory permitting processes that ensure compliance and support sustainable land management. You will prepare and manage permit applications, maintain compliance and reporting, and provide technical guidance to operational teams across the business. The role is hybrid, with the flexibility to work from home and travel occasionally to sites or offices. Ideally, you will be based within reach of one of the company’s offices (Reading, Cardiff, or Warrington). What’s on Offer * Salary up to £55,000 (DOE) * Annual car allowance of £6,300 * Contributory pension scheme (4% employee, 6% employer) * Private healthcare (after probationary period) * Life assurance (4x basic annual salary) * 25 days holiday (rising to 28 with service) * Flexible hybrid working – (4days at home, 1 day in the office) or home-based with occasional travel to office and site as required Key Responsibilities * Prepare, manage, and review environmental permits, including compliance monitoring and regulatory reporting. * Provide technical guidance and support to operational teams (SAR and STF) on permitting and compliance issues. * Conduct internal compliance audits for active permitted sites and provide feedback to the business. * Ensure environmental goals and regulatory standards are achieved across projects. * Monitor permitting progress, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions as needed. * Produce reports and documentation to support business planning and management decisions. * Maintain accurate records and ensure data is accessible for compliance and reporting purposes. * Liaise confidently with regulators, internal teams, and external stakeholders. Skills, Qualifications & Experience * Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the waste, remediation, or contaminated land industry. * Strong knowledge of UK environmental permitting regulations (essential). * Ideally a member of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIWM or IES). * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage regulators and stakeholders. * Proactive, well organised, and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities independently. * Collaborative team player who enjoys working across departments. * Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK.
